The Manor House welcomes guests to the royal city of Kandy with a fusion of old world charm and contemporary luxuries. Previously known as the Nugawela Walauwa, the Manor House was built during the late 18th century while it was fully refurbished in the year 2005. A 14000 sq ft old stately mansion (Walauwa) which was built in 1884 and named after the Governor of the hill country at that time, the Manor House is located in the hill capital of Kandy in the suburb of Nugawela. The drive from the city centre is convenient and short while reaching Kandy is possible in many ways. Travellers can either opt to drive to Kandy which takes about 2 1/2 - 3 hours from Colombo or take the express train which offers air-conditioned and standard carriages for your ease. Buses are also available to and from Kandy from many of the major cities in the island while Kandy is a transportation hub in the central province.
When in Kandy, there are a number of places that you can visit without a doubt. The most important of them all is the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and the Royal Palace Complex which houses the relic. Other places that you can visit includes the Royal Botanical Gardens of Peradeniya, the Hanthane Tea Factory and its vast mountain ranges, the Kandy Lake and its surroundings where you can enjoy long walks and boat rides as well as the Victoria Country Golf Club which is located a short drive away from Kandy. The Kandy town is always bustling with people and there are many shops, cafes and high end shopping malls that you can visit.
